Other Alias: John Aaron, numerous other titles from his cults.
Most Notable Relationships: Alexander Aaron (son), Zeus (father), Hera (mother), Hercules (half brother)
Group Affiliation: Mighty Avengers, but only barely.
Age: Ares appears to be in his mid 30s.
Height: 6'1 (But comic artists like to make him a bit taller.)
Weight: 500
Physical Description: Ares is physically imposing; tall and muscular, he seems bigger than he truly is by how he carries himself. While not unattractive, very few of his kind are not, Ares' appearance is almost dated in his hyper masculinity. Strong features, strong jaw, hirsute, perhaps a slightly crooked nose from countless fights; Ares looks like a warrior. When at home, he keeps to comfortable casual, something he cares not to share with his teammates. On missions Ares dons a black modern style breast plate and a golden helmet akin to his days in Greece.
Personality: Ares would prefer most mortals to think of him as a brute. His nature is violent, demonstrated numerous times through out the centuries, and unpredictable. He falls to rage and bloodlust despite a sharp cunning and intelligence that has much of a cause to his downfalls and his victories. It's his strongest trait, and the one that Ares wants his peers to know and fear. He seemingly relished his cloak of awe over his worshipers who always came back, licking at his heels when the drums of war began to beat. He delighted in violence and in slaughter, the rush that drove his followers to to insanity and death. Even when Zeus decreed the end of their worship, Ares fought against the will of change.
But what Ares sought was acceptance; a place in the whole of the gods and mortals. His very nature keeps him at odds with this goal; after all madness, rage, and war is his flesh. But like the rest of the too human gods, Ares needed the good will and respect of others. When he left the gods, he focused too much on finding community and normalcy instead of creating a balance. The tendency for violence lurked in his mortal existence, it spilled over to his domesticity. Even in his newly earned humility, Ares still craved war and bloodlust. Perhaps that's why he actually agreed to join the Avengers. He no longer needed Olympians or the respect of his family; but rather the respect of his son. And what better way to encourage both sides of his personality by accepting the role of a guardian once again?
Ares is decidedly different when dealing with his domestic life. Alex is the first of his many children he has chosen to raise and thus has a stronger bond to Alex than the rest of his sons and daughters. He's gruffly caring, playful, and stern with Alex; he's stoic towards Alex's teachers and civil to his friends. Sadly, he has passed on one of the most negative traits that many other of the Olympians have discarded, misogamy.
The former god of war does not much care for women; he never truly has. The culture he served and influenced him treated women as chattel and thus his ideas of women have not progressed. Oddly enough, Alex's birth has only reinforced Ares' belief in female inferiority among female mortals. He's done better than most women at raising a child on his own, and thus seen only valuable as to give birth to children and to satiate his lust.
In sum; Ares is not a very nice guy.
Mutant Power/Super Power: "Like all Olympians, Ares is superhumanly strong, though far more so than the majority of his race. Among the Olympians, his strength is equaled only by his uncles, Neptune and Pluto, and is exceeded only by his father, Zeus, and his half-brother, Hercules. Ares' body generates almost no fatigue toxins during physical activity, granting him almost limitless superhuman stamina in all physical activities. Ares' body is also highly resistant to physical injury. He can withstand great impact forces, temperature extremes, and falls from great heights without being injured.
However, also like all other Olympians, he can sustain injury. He has been injured by magical attacks from the likes of Zeus and by blows from Thor's hammer. However, Ares' godly life-force enables him to rapidly recover from most injuries in a short period of time. Ares is functionally immortal in the sense that he is immune to the effects of aging and hasn't aged since reaching adulthood. He is also unaffected by any known disease or infection.
While not as accomplished at magic as many of his fellow Olympians, Ares can sense the presence of other gods, demons, and the use of magic, call other gods, summon weapons from Olympus, and transport himself by teleportation to Olympus and to Earth at will.
He is, as fits his station as the Olympian God of War, a formidable hand to hand combatant. He is also an expert with numerous weapons, including ancient weapons and conventional, modern-day firearms. In his earlier appearances, he typically carried Olympian weapons like battleaxes, spears, swords, and daggers, but his most recent appearance shows him favoring a mixture of ancient and modern weapons, like gases, rays, firearms, and high-explosives, as well as "Hydra blood bullets", which contain the lethal blood of a Lernaean Hydra. He is an aficionado, expert and collector of the most unusual instruments and methods of death dealing. He is also well versed in torture, interrogation and combat tactics."
Control of Power: Excellent
Special Skills/Abilities: Moderate knowledge and skill in Construction; masonry and carpentry. Moderate knowledge and skill in Domesticity; cooking, cleaning.
Extras: This profile is based more on the portrayal of Ares in the Mini series firstly and the portrayal of him from Mighty Avengers secondary. Some ideas have been adapted to give more credence to the Mini series. Despite the fact Hercules has helped him save his son, there's plenty of resentment between them and the simple fact is they don't get along.
Ares no longer fears or hates his father Zeus who did the ultimate sacrifice to save Alexander. He chooses to stay on Earth for Alex's sake, and doesn't mind allowing people to believe otherwise.
His greatest fear is Alexander being used as a weapon again.
Recent History: Not long after the War on Mikaboshi, Ares and Alexander returned to their home though Ares’ battle lust had been awakened. Still, it was not enough for him to get involved with the Civil War, knowing that such attention wouldn’t be wanted so soon after Alex’s recovery. When Stark and Danvers approached him about his status, he registered and joined the Avengers.
He played a part in taking down Ultron though he was defeated in battle with the Hulk while trying to manage to get Alex to soccer practice between missions. The aftermath of the attack of the Warbound brought him into direct confrontation with Hercules, whom he failed to capture.
Recently, he and the other Avengers have begun an attack on Castle Doom.
